FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic application used to enhance the length, curl, fullness and darkness of your natural eyelashes. They are done by applying either a single extension or a handmade volume extension to each and every natural lash.
Are eyelash extensions safe?
Here at The LASH Stop, we ensure that our lash artists do everything they can to make sure your lash extensions are applied safely and properly. We are very careful when choosing what weight and length of lash extensions your natural lashes can withstand. Too heavy of lash extensions can cause breakage/damage to your natural lashes. We also use medical grade adhesive that never comes in direct contact with your skin. Overall, when done correctly, lash extensions do not ruin the health of your natural lashes or cause long term damage.
How long will my eyelash extensions last?
Because each extension is individually attached to a single lash, it will also fall out when your natural lash sheds. The normal life cycle of a natural lash can be as short as two weeks and as long as eight weeks. However, most clients need a fill in every 2 to 3 weeks depending on their aftercare practices and daily activities.
What happens if I have an allergic reaction?
Most clients who develop an allergic reaction are having a reaction to the adhesive being used. Sadly, some people are allergic to certain ingredients found in almost every lash adhesive. If this occurs, someone would experience minor swelling and itching of the eyelids. These symptoms usually show up within the first three days (72 hours) after completion of the lash service. Mild reactions can be treated with an antihistamine and usually go away fairly quickly. More serious reactions are RARE, but can happen. In that case, the extensions would be removed immediately and the symptoms should subside shortly after.
How do I clean my eyelash extensions?
It is important to clean your lash extensions to avoid bad retention or Blepharitis. The use of a professional lash extension cleanser that will nourish, deep clean, and protect your natural lashes is recommended.
Apply a small amount of the foaming cleanser on a fluffy eyelash brush
Apply the cleanser around the eye area and the lash extensions to remove debris and makeup residue
Brush up and down along the lashes gently
Rinse using clean water
Ensure the cleanser has cleared
Fan or let your lashes air dry
Once dry, use a clean lash wand, and brush the lash extensions to fluff them back out.
Do I need to prepare for my appointment?
Prior to your appointment, try your best to arrive without any make up on. Also, try to refrain from curling your lashes or wearing mascara the day before and the day of your appointment. This will help minimize the cleanup/prep time and allow more time for lashing.
How long can I expect my appointment to be?
Lash extensions are applied while you are laying down with your eyes closed on a comfortable spa bed. This usually takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours for a full set of lashes and 1 to 1 1/2 hours for fill-ins. The amount of time varies depending on the set of lashes you decide to get, as well as how many natural lashes you have. After prepping your lashes, your bottom lashes are protected with micro-foam tape, lash extensions are then applied 1:1 with a medical grade adhesive. It is a really relaxing, non-invasive treatment and most of our clients take the time to catch up on their beauty sleep!
How do I take care of my new lash extensions?
Lash extensions are a high maintenance beauty treatment. They require very gentle care in order for the lashes to last longer and stay in good condition.
Be gentle. Do not rub or pull on your lash extensions.
Keep your lash extensions dry for 24 - 48 hours after your appointment.
You may wash your face in the sink using a washcloth, avoiding the eye area.
Keep all oil based products away from the eyes and remember that everything on your face will travel to the eye area.
Brush lashes daily.
Oil WILL breakdown the adhesive and you will have premature lash extension loss. Your hands can get dirty, and dirt is oily, so you’ll want to keep your fingers off your eyes unless cleansing.
No saunas, facials, or swimming within 24 - 48 hours of application.
Do not have your head facing the oven when baking! It can singe your extensions. Turn your head away from the oven when putting anything in or pulling anything out.
Be aware of other heat sources as well. This includes blow dryers, bonfires, and anything that causes a big gust of heat.
Do not use eyelash curlers.
You should be careful and take specific care with makeup and remover, all should be oil free.
Do not use cotton (q-tips or cotton balls) on your lash extensions, fibers will get stuck in your extensions.
Mascara should NOT be worn. If necessary, make sure it is lash extension safe.
We recommend getting a lash cleanser and washing your lashes often if you wear heavy eye makeup daily.
Do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own, call us for an appointment
Stay on top of your fills, 2-3 weeks is recommended. .
Remember:
Aggressive behavior towards the lashes will cause the lash extensions to come off.
Brushing solves most problems. Try brushing the lashes gently if you notice something’s out of place.
What is a lash lift & tint?
One way to think of a lash lift is like a perm for your eyelashes. Unlike lash extensions, a lash lift simply alters the shape and color of your natural lashes. The treatment involves boosting and lifting each individual lash, Adding tint makes them thicker, darker, and appear longer. This is a good choice for anyone with long natural lashes or for anymore who does not want the commitment and upkeep of lash extensions.
Is the lash lift & tint procedure painful?
No! A lash lift & tint should not be painful at all. During the procedure, you will need to keep your eyes closed to let your lash artist work and give you the best results! The entire procedure may take around 60 to 90 minutes so it is okay to feel a bit strange to open your eyes after the lash lifting. If the procedure is done at home and not performed by a trained professional you may cause damage or irritation to your eyes which is why it is best done in a salon setting.
What is the aftercare for a lash lift & tint?
For the first 24 hours…
Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes or lashes
Keep your lashes dry for the initial 24 hours after treatment
Avoid makeup, eye cream, face cream, face oils, or sunscreen
Avoid taking a sauna, steam bath, face steamer, swimming, or even excessive sweating!
Basically, keep your hands and anything else away from your eyes!
Brush your lashes upwards to help set the curl
Daily aftercare
To get the most out of your lash lift, avoid using any kind of oil-based mascara or makeup remover. Oil will degrade your lash lift and cause them to straighten faster.
